LIfe in the Slow Lane (and How to Speed it Up)
Many of us Denning Denizens live on dial up. Here are a couple of tips on how to manage the internet on a dial up connection:
- turn off all graphics on your browser if you can
- use the HTML or classic option of Yahoo Mail or Google Mail
- don’t download any attachments unless they are text
- use the AP news feed to get news, called My Way news (there are no ads or pictures and it loads quickly in seconds)
- use Weather Bug to get the weather for the day, or 7 days
- when searching, try adding “html” after your search term, for example, “cornell when to plant tomatoes html” sent me to the great cornell gardening website
- use wikipedia and no graphic information sources as much as possible
