Claryville Post Office: Business as Usual - for Now

The USPS announced a new plan yesterday to help keep small rural post offices open instead of closing many as was originally announced.  Since we denizens are served by one of these quite small and very rural (and I might add, extremely friendly) post offices, you may be wondering if our office is one of those affected and what changes to expect.

The Claryville post office is slated to have its hours cut from 8 hrs to 4, Monday - Friday. But what about Saturday hours? Which 4 hours will it be open and when it’s closed, will we have access to our PO boxes?

First off, no changes will take effect until a rather lengthy process is complete which involves giving us an opportunity to express any concerns and perhaps a say in how the changes are implemented. Look for notices announcing community meetings that will be scheduled sometime in September/October and try to attend when they are scheduled.

For now, it’s business as usual - same hours, same days. However, in the meantime, it certainly will help if we give our local post office as much business as possible.  That means buying your stamps there and shipping from there, but also having items you order shipped to you via USPS - that counts as business handled by our office.  So, if you have a choice, support our local post office and one of our few local employers and choose USPS.
